Mumbai University has sanctioned two unit of National Service Scheme to our college. The NSS unit of our college places an active role in shaping our students humane and responsible citizens. NSS is a noble experiment in academic expansion. It inculcates the spirit of NSS Volunteers to work among the students and teachers through sustained community interaction. It brings academic institutions closer to society. The Motto of NSS "Not Me but You” reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration to '/other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrine in this motto, which underlines/on the belief that the welfare .of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

The overall aim of NSS is the Personality Development of students through community service. The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:

1. To understand the community in which they work.
2. To understand themselves in relation to their community.
3. To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
4. To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
5. To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
6. To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
7. To gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
8. To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
9. To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
10. To practice national integration and social harmony.

 

The NSS Dept. has been conducting NSS Regular Activities and Special Camps at Adopted villages and Slums by involving NSS


Volunteers and NSS Programme Officers.

Regular activities consist of the following:-

• Save Energy/ Electricity.
• Tree plantation.
• Literacy/Educational Programme.
• Environment/Waster land development and conservation.
• Reconstruction/Repair of Roads.
• Immunization/Health camps.
• Blood donation camps.
• Awareness camps on drug Abuse/AIDS (UTA)/HIV.
• Programmes for Woman.
• National Integration/Communal Harmony Programmes.
• Celebration of important days.

Special Camps:

We are conducting special camping programme of seven days duration in adopted places and it provides unique opportunities to the students for group living, collective experience sharing, sharing responsibilities, addressing various developmental issues of regional and national importance and constant interaction with the community. Special camping activities consist of check dam construction, cleaning roads, awareness programmes, village/tribal colony adoption, preservation and conservation of Rainwater, Nature Study Camps, construction of bandhare’s,Wild life awareness, etc.
