DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

Department of Zoology is foremost center for learning of animal sciences in Konkan region of University of Mumbai. The Zoology department was initiated in 2010 and extended upto present coinciding with the attraction of students to undertake graduation course.

The silent features of Department are as follows
1. Teaching and Learning :
All courses are taught by Lecture and Practical Work. Department of Zoology employ advanced and innovative Teaching and Learning methods for students including Classroom teaching, Power-point presentations, Invited lectures, field studies, Case studies, Projects, Educational tours/visits, Seminars, Poster presentations, Healthcare camps etc.

2. Professional Activities
We guide our students for overall development of personality and to pursue their carrier in the field of science. NET/SET/GATE guidance cell is active at department and special efforts are taken with interested students for preparation of various national and international competitive exams in Life-Sciences.

3. Practical Laboratory :
Well-equipped Zoology practical laboratory is an asset of college. The laboratory owns various instruments like spectrophotometer, centrifuge, incubator, oven, colorimeter, pH meter, TDS meter, water distillation unit, electrophoresis unit, hot water bath, hot plate magnetic stirrer, fire safety and first aid facilities etc.

4. Research :
Department of Zoology is actively involved in research in the fields of Water biology with stress on ocean ecology, freshwater ecology and estuarine ecology. Presently we are conducting regular monitoring of Vashisti river water, flows between western ghats and Arabic sea. Simultaneously we are working sincerely on Documentation and analysis of Biodiversity of animals in the region.

5. Library :
Department has been creating its own Library with diverse collection of Books and magazines for students and interest keepers in Zoology.
